- Remove the engine cover, then disconnect electrical connectors from compressor and clutch.
- Loosen idle pulley and disconnect compressor drive belt.
- Remove compressor manifold attaching bolt and manifold from rear of compressor, then cap all connections.
- Remove carburetor vacuum break to provide clearance, if necessary.
- Remove bolts securing compressor to mounting bracket, then compressor, Fig. .
- Reverse procedure to install, using new O-rings when installing manifold.

Before installing replacement compressor, drain oil from replacement and failed compressors (drain oil from suction port). Add same amount of oil to replacement compressor as drained from failed compressor.
Remove defective components. Add the proper amount of oil to each replacement component. Most recovery/recycling equipment will measure the amount of oil being removed. This is the amount of oil to be added back to the system, follow manufactures instructions provided with the recovery/recycling station.

This fan is driven by an electric motor which is attached to the radiator support. The cooling fan is controlled by the PCM, based on inputs from the coolant temperature sensor, A/C fan control switch and vehicle speed. The PCM controls the fan through a ground circuit, which energizes the fan control relay, supplying voltage to the fan motor.
The PCM grounds the circuit when coolant temperature is over 223°F or when A/C is On.
