If battery cable has been disconnected, the PCM must relearn a new operating strategy. Connect battery cable and run engine until operating temperature is reached. After engine warm-up, drive vehicle under various operating conditions until PCM has relearned new strategy.

- Remove heater and A/C unit as described under "Heater Housing, Replace," then invert unit and separate door pivot from pivot pin.
- Disconnect vacuum line, then separate halves of heater and A/C unit and remove center adapter heat duct and screw.
- Remove door from bottom half of heater and A/C unit.
- Reverse procedure to install. Ensure door pivot pins align with holes when assembling heater and A/C housing.

- Remove kick cover from heater and A/C housing, then disconnect resistor connector.
- Remove two screws securing resistor to housing, then the resistor.
- Reverse procedure to install.
Dakota
- Remove cowl plenum cover, reach through plenum access hole and remove two blower motor resistor screws.
- Pull blower motor resistor wire harness out of plenum, then disconnect wire from resistor.
- Reverse procedure to install.
