Service Brake
The rear brake shoes adjust automatically when the vehicle is driven in reverse and the brakes are applied sharply several times. Manual adjustment is required only when brake shoes are replaced. When adjusting rear brakes, ensure parking brake is properly adjusted and adjuster is operating freely.

- With drums removed, clean areas where shoes contact backing plate, then apply suitable lubricant to contact areas. Ensure lubricant does not contaminate linings.

Removal
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove brake drum. If brake drum will not come off, proceed as follows:
- Remove rubber plug from adjuster hole.
- Insert suitable screwdriver and brake adjustment tool No. D81L-1103-C, or equivalent.
- Disconnect brake shoe adjusting lever and loosen brake adjuster screw .
- Inspect wheel cylinders for signs of leakage. If evidence of leakage is present, service cylinders as required.
- Install brake cylinder clamp tool No. D81L-1103-B, or equivalent, over ends of wheel cylinder.
- Disconnect adjusting lever from adjusting screw...

- Using parking brake adjuster screw, adjust parking brake shoe to .020 inch (.508 mm) less than drum measurement, Fig. .
