To measure pushrod adjustment, use a suitable gauge and position it against the master cylinder mounting surface as illustrated in Fig. . Adjust pushrod screw by turning it until the end just touches inner edge of gauge slot.

  • Remove air cleaner housing, if required.
  • Remove brake master cylinder attaching nuts.
  • Position brake master cylinder aside.
  • Disconnect booster vacuum hose.
  • Disconnect power distribution box auxiliary relay and set aside.
  • Remove fuse panel cover.
  • Remove stop lamp switch self-locking pin.
  • Remove stop lamp switch and brake booster pushrod from brake pedal pin.
  • Remove power brake booster nuts.
  • Remove power brake booster.
  • Reverse procedure to install. Torque booster mounting nuts to 16-21 ft. lbs.

Removal
  • Remove sufficient brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
  • Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
  • Remove disc brake caliper as outlined in "Caliper Service".
  • On models equipped with 2WD, remove hub grease cap, cotter pin, nut retainer, hub spindle nut and front outer wheel bearing washer, then remove outer wheel bearing.
  • On all models, remove front disc brake hub and rotor.
  • On models equipped with 4WD, remove hub as outlined under "Halfshaft, Replace," in "All Wheel Drive System."

Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

1997-98
  • With ignition key in Off position, ground data link connector pin 4 to initiate Quick Test.
  • Place ignition in On position and wait 3.0 seconds.
  • ABS diagnostic trouble codes will begin to flash on the ABS warning lamp.
  • First Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be DTC 12, and will repeat 3 times before flashing next diagnostic trouble code, Fig. .
  • After all DTC's have been retrieved, DTC's will repeat beginning with DTC 12. If no DTC's are stored in memory, start DTC 12 will repeat continuously.
