- Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheels.
- Remove drum retaining nuts if equipped, then the drums. If drum will not separate from brake shoes or axle, proceed as follows:
- Ensure parking brake is disengaged.
- Remove adjuster hole plug from backing plate.
- Insert small screwdriver or equivalent, through adjuster hole, then push and hold self adjuster lever off adjuster screw assembly, Fig. .

- Disconnect brake lines at master cylinder.
- Remove ground wire from combination valve bracket.
- Remove master cylinder retaining nuts, Fig. .
- Slide combination valve bracket off cylinder mounting studs. Loosen or disconnect brake lines at rear anti-lock valve and combination valve, if required.
- Remove master cylinder.
- Reverse procedure to install. Tighten master cylinder mounting nuts and fluid line nuts as specified in Fig. .
