- Remove intake air ducts and disconnect temperature sensor connector.
- Disconnect wiring harness from cooling fan motor.
- Loosen and remove top hold-down bolts from cooling fan assembly.
- On models equipped with automatic transaxle and A/C, it may be necessary to loosen top transaxle oil cooler line for clearance.
- On all models, lift cooling fan off of lower mounting brackets. Move assembly to left and rotate counterclockwise while lifting upward past upper radiator hose.

- Drain engine coolant into a suitable container.
- Remove heater inlet and return hoses.
- Place end of heater return hose in a container, then apply low air pressure to inlet hose and blow coolant out of heater core.
- Remove righthand console extension.
- Remove heater core pipe to heater core clamps, then the pipe from core end tank, Fig. .
- Remove core retaining screw, then the strap.
- Pull center console forward edge outward for access.
- Pull heater core out of module into passenger foot area, Fig. .
- Reverse procedure...

Service procedures given are for compressor removed and mounted in suitable holding fixture. However, on most applications, compressor clutch components can be serviced without removing compressor or recovering refrigerant from system. If refrigerant recovery becomes necessary, refer to "General Service" for procedure.
To prevent serious internal compressor damage, when removing or installing clutch components, never apply pressure directly to the compressor shaft. Always use a suitable shaft protector.

- Drain cooling system into suitable container.
- Remove serpentine drive belt, then the alternator and bracket.
- Remove water pump pulley attaching bolts, then remove the pulley.
- Remove water pump attaching bolts, then the water pump.
- Reverse procedure to install.
3.0L Engine
- Remove air cleaner inlet duct from throttle body.
- Remove left front wheel and splash shield.
- Loosen water pump and power steering pump pulley bolts. Do not remove bolts at this time.
