System Operation

Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)

The ABS system will control hydraulic pressure in the individual wheel circuits to prevent any wheel from slipping. A separate hydraulic line and specific solenoid valves are provided for each wheel. The ABS can decrease, hold or increase hydraulic pressure to each wheel brake. However, it cannot increase hydraulic pressure above what the master cylinder is transmitting.

  • Distance should be 5.850-6.244 inches.
  • If distance is not as specified, adjust pedal height as follows:

Brake System Bleed

In most circumstances a manual brake bleed is all that is required. Automated ABS bleeding is required under the following conditions: when manual bleeding does not achieve desired pedal height or feel; brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) replacement; extreme loss of brake fluid; air ingestion is suspected.
