Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may be read using a suitably programed scan tool. There are no provisions for flash code diagnostics.

  • Turn ignition switch to Off position.
  • Connect suitably programmed scan tool connected to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under lefthand side of instrument panel below steering column.

  • Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
  • Mark drum and axle hub, then remove brake drum. If brake lining is dragging on brake drum, back off brake adjustment by rotating adjustment screw. Front & Rear Split System

When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective systems.

If the rear (secondary) brake system fails, initial brake pedal movement will cause the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cylinder bore. Primary piston movement will displace hydraulic fluid in the primary section of the master cylinder to actuate the front brake system.
