Disc Brakes -> PBR Single Piston Rear Disc Brake -> Troubleshooting -> Brake Roughness
Vehicle: 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 5.7 V8 GAS
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in disc thickness. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pulsation is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness variation. To inspect for this condition, measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius approximately one inch from edge of disc. If thickness measurements vary by more than ...

AC-Delco Tandem Diaphragm Type
This unit utilizes a vacuum power chamber, consisting of a front and rear shell, housing divider, front and rear diaphragm, plate assemblies, hydraulic pushrod and a diaphragm return spring, Fig. .
In normal operating mode, with service brakes in released position, the booster operates with vacuum on both sides of its diaphragms. When brakes are applied, air at atmospheric pressure is admitted to one side of each diaphragm to provide power assist. When the service brake is released, atmospheric air is shut off from one side of each diaphragm. The air is ...

Anti-lock Brakes -> Delco/Bosch Type 5 -> Description -> Brake Pressure Modulator Valve -> Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module -> Front -> Rear -> System Components -> System Operation -> Wheel Speed Sensors
Vehicle: 2001 Chevrolet Corvette 5.7 V8 GAS
System Operation
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) minimizes wheel lock-up during heavy braking. The ABS monitors each wheel's speed and controls brake fluid pressure to each wheel independently, Figs. through . A separate hydraulic line and solenoid valve for each wheel allows hydraulic pressure to be modulated, preventing wheel lock-up. The ABS can decrease, hold or increase hydraulic pressure.
The system continuously monitors all components, uses several methods to determine faults and notify the driver of malfunctions. When the engine is started, the ABS electrical circuitry is fu...

Vehicle: 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 5.7 V8 GAS
When troubleshooting the hydraulic brake system, perform the following inspections.
Master Cylinder Internal Fluid Leakage Check
Start engine and depress the brake pedal. If the pedal gradually falls under constant pressure, the hydraulic system may be leaking. Raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect all tubing lines and backing plates for signs of leakage. It may be required to lift or remove the carpeting or floor mats to inspect for boost...

Removal
- Remove 2/3 of total brake fluid capacity from master cylinder reservoir.
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- If caliper requires overhaul, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, then disconnect inlet fitting from caliper housing.
- Discard both gaskets, then plug openings in inlet fitting and caliper to prevent loss or contamination of fluid. Do not crimp brake hose since this may damage hose's internal structure.
- Remove caliper guide pin bolts, then the caliper from rotor and caliper mounting bracket. If only shoe and linings require replacement, susp...
