- Remove drive belts, then the belt tensioners.
- Remove crankshaft damper and pulley, then the water pump pulley.
- Remove timing belt covers as required.
- Disconnect water pump hoses.
- Remove and discard water pump attaching bolts.

- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque water pump to 15 ft. lbs., then rotate an additional 90°.

- Connect VAG 1551/1552, or equivalent scan tool to diagnostic connector.
- Select "Engine Electronics" address word "01", then press "Q" button to confirm input.
