  • Remove air cleaner assembly.
  • Remove Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
  • Remove upper fan shroud.
  • Remove drive belt.
  • Remove fan and fan blade clutch assembly.
  • Remove water pump pulley.
  • Disconnect coolant bypass hose and clamps.
  • Disconnect radiator outlet hose from water pump.
  • Remove four water pump bolts, then the water pump.

  • Recover refrigerant as outlined under , then loosen and reposition compressor in brackets.
  • Remove clutch plate and hub as outlined under "Compressor Clutch Service."
  • Remove shaft seal retaining ring.
  • Clean inside of compressor neck area around shaft and seal seat to prevent damage to compressor from entry of dirt.
  • Place seal protector tool No. J-33021, or equivalent, over end of shaft to avoid chipping ceramic seat.
  • Engage knurled tangs of seal seat replacement tool No. J-23128-A, or equivalent, into recessed portion of seal seat by turning handle clockwise.
