Brake System Bleed
Manual Bleed
Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure. Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.
- Remove vacuum reserve by pumping brakes several times with engine off.
- Fill master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid. Check fluid level often during bleeding procedure, do not let reservoir fall below half full.
- If necessary, bleed master cylinder as follows:
- Disconnect front EBTCM pipe fitting at master cylinder.
- Allow fluid to fill maste...

Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Dual Piston Front Disc Brake -> Troubleshooting -> Brake Roughness
Vehicle: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro 3.8 V6 GAS
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in disc thickness. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pulsation is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness variation. To inspect for this condition, measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius approximately one inch from edge of disc. If thickness measurements vary by more than .0...

Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Dual Piston Front Disc Brake -> Caliper Service -> Assemble -> Bushing & Boot Replacement -> Disassemble -> Installation -> Mounting Bracket Service -> Removal
Vehicle: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro 3.8 V6 GAS
Removal
- Siphon enough brake fluid out of master cylinder to bring fluid level to 1/3 full to avoid fluid overflow when caliper pistons are pushed back into bores.
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
- Mark relationship between wheel to hub and bearing assembly.
- Push pistons back together into caliper bores using a suitable C-clamp and, if required, a block of wood.
- If caliper assembly is to be serviced, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, copper washer, and inlet fitting from caliper housing. Plug opening in inlet fitting to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Do no...

Hydraulic Brake Systems -> General Motors -> Troubleshooting -> Master Cylinder Internal Fluid Leakage Check -> Road Test
Vehicle: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro 3.8 V6 GAS
When troubleshooting the hydraulic brake system, perform the following inspections.
Master Cylinder Internal Fluid Leakage Check
Start engine and depress the brake pedal. If the pedal gradually falls under constant pressure, the hydraulic system may be leaking. Raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect all tubing lines and backing plates for signs of leakage. It may be required to lift or remove the carpeting or floor mats to inspect for boost...
