If faults are recognized and verified by the engine control module, they will be indicated by switching on the MIL. Perform the functional inspection as follows: Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The MIL must light up if the MIL does not light with the ignition switch on, inspect the bulb and/or locate and eliminate short or open in wiring circuit from the engine control module to MIL using a proper wiring diagram. The Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) alerts the driver when a vehicle service is needed. The system uses a hard permanent type memory which will not erase if the battery is disconnected.
This reminder appears in the odometer display window. When the ignition is turned on, the following displays will appear for about 3 seconds: IN 00, no service required; OEL, 7500 miles/6 month engine oil change; IN 01, 15,000 miles/12 month maintenance and inspection; IN 02, 30,000 miles/24 month maintenance and inspection.
