It may be required to access and record all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) prior to disarming the air bag system.
- Place ignition switch in Lock position.
- Disconnect and isolate battery ground cable.
- Wait at least two minutes after disconnecting battery ground cable before doing any further work on vehicle. The air bag system is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy air bags for a short time even after battery has been disconnected.

The Kelsey-Hayes double pin caliper,. Fig. , consist of a driving hub, braking disc rotor, caliper, pads and adapter. The caliper is mounted through two bushings and sleeves. The caliper is a one piece casting with the inboard side containing a single piston and bore.
2001-03
There are two non-interchangeable front brake systems. Vehicles with front disc/rear drum combination use a TRW system. Vehicles with a front and rear disc combination use a Continental Teves system.. Components are not inter-changeable and must not be mixed.

- Remove cotter pin, nut lock, and spring washer from end of outer CV joint stub axle.
- Loosen (but do not remove) stub axle to hub/bearing retaining nut. Loosen hub nut while vehicle is on the floor with brakes applied. Front hub and driveshaft are splined together and retained by hub nut.
- Raise vehicle on jack stands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.
- Remove front tire and wheel assembly from hub.
- Remove front disc brake caliper assembly to steering knuckle guide pin attaching bolts.
