Because the brakes are self-adjusting, it is impossible to tell from the brake pedal stroke whether the linings are worn. The lining thickness should be inspected at specified intervals as outlined in "Vehicle Maintenance Schedule" section.

- Drain brake fluid from fluid reservoir.
- Disconnect hydraulic lines from cylinder.
- Temporarily plug these lines to avoid loss of fluid.
- Disconnect brake/warning switch connector on filler cap.
- Remove the two nuts connecting cylinder to brake booster, then the master cylinder.
- Reverse procedure to install, then bleed brake system.

- Remove brake pads.
- Loosen brake hose at caliper.
- Press brake pedal fully to floor and secure in that position.
- Remove upper guide pin bolt, then disconnect brake hose at caliper and plug hose and fitting.
- Remove caliper.
- Reverse procedure to install and bleed brake system.
Rear
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
- Press out brake pistons with suitable pliers.
- Depress brake pedal with brake clamp.
