- Remove shaft nut or bolt, Fig. , with aid of spanner wrench.
- Remove pressure plate using pressure plate remover.
- Remove shims from shaft.
- Remove rotor (pulley) retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers.
- Remove rotor (pulley) by gently tapping it with plastic hammer. Some compressors may require a jaw puller.
- Disconnect stator lead wires from compressor housing.
- Remove stator retaining snap ring using suitable snap ring pliers, then remove stator from compressor housing.

- Drain coolant into a suitable container.
- Remove engine appearance cover mounting nuts, then the cover.
- Remove air cleaner hose and resonator assembly.
- Disconnect heater hoses as required.
- Disconnect ECT sensor electrical connectors.
- Remove wiring harness protector mounting nut, disconnect clamp, then move protector away from cylinder head.
- Remove water inlet pipe mounting nut at lefthand cylinder head, then separate pipe from head. Discard O-ring.

- Remove glove compartment.
- Remove cabin air filter cover, then the filter.
- Reverse procedure to install.
Camry & Camry Solara
- Remove glove compartment.
- Remove cabin air filter case by pulling straight out from blower unit.
- Remove cabin air filter from case.
- Reverse procedure to install.
Celica
- Remove two glove compartment stop pins, then open compartment wide by pulling straight down.
- Remove filter case from blower unit.
- Remove filter from case.
- Reverse procedure to install.
