To inspect for this condition, measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius appro...

Front & Rear Split System
When the brake pedal is depressed, both the primary (front brake) and the secondary (rear brake) master cylinder pistons are moved simultaneously to exert hydraulic fluid pressure on their respective systems.
If the rear brake system fails, initial brake pedal movement will cause the unrestricted secondary piston to bottom in the master cylinder bore. Primary piston movement will displace hydraulic fluid in the primary section of the master cylinder to actuate the front brake system.
If the front brake system fails, initial brake pedal movement will cause the ...

Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Single Piston Rear Disc Brake -> Description
Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 3.8 V6 GAS
On all models except Century, Grand Prix and Regal, the caliper assembly has a single bore and is mounted to the support bracket with two mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies, Fig. . Hydraulic pressure created by applying the brake pedal is converted by the caliper to a stopping force. This force acts equally against the piston and the bottom of the piston bore to move the piston outward and to slide the caliper inward resulting in a clamping action. This clamping action presses the linings against the rotor, creating friction to stop the vehicle.
On Century, Grand Prix and Regal model...
