- Raise and support vehicle, remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.
- Remove and discard spring nut.
- If brake drum is rusted to axle shaft pilot diameter, tap center of brake drum between wheel studs.
- Pull brake drum off of axle.
- If brake drums will not come off, sing a screwdriver, move brake shoe adjusting lever off of brake adjusting screw, then loosen brake adjuster to allow drum to release.

Master Cylinder
When a new master cylinder has been installed, or the system has been emptied or partially emptied, the master cylinder should be primed.
In Vehicle
- Disconnect brake master cylinder outlet tubes.
- Install short tubes with ends submerged in brake master cylinder reservoir, then fill master cylinder reservoir with clean, suitable brake fluid.
- Have an assistant pump brake pedal until clear fluid flows from both brake tubes without air bubbles.
- Remove short tubes and install brake outlet tubes.

- Connect one end of a clear flexible hose to master cylinder bleeder screw. Submerge other end in a container partially filled with suitable brake fluid.
- Have an assistant pump and then hold firm pressure on brake pedal.
- Open master cylinder bleeder screw until brake fluid flows into container.
- When fluid stops flowing, close bleeder screw.
- Repeat procedure until there are no air bubbles in fluid.
