DRIVESHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ E55 AMG 5.5 V8 GAS
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove exhaust system at flange connection.
- Remove exhaust shielding plate.
- Remove bottom part of noise encapsulation.
- Remove rear engine crossmember and rear engine mount.
- Unscrew crossmember at floor shift.
- Detach front reinforcement brace below propeller shaft.
- Loosen bolts of propeller shaft intermediate bearing.
- Disconnect front propeller shaft at transmission. Flexible coupling remains on propeller shaft.
- Detach rear propeller shaft from rear axle center assembly. Flexible coupling remains on propeller shaft.

Vehicle: 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ E55 AMG 5.5 V8 GAS
- Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
- Empty rear air springs using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
- Remove twelve-point nut from rear axle shaft.
- Remove rear wheel.
- Remove brake pads on rear axle. Hang the floating caliper up with a hook to relieve the strain on the brake hose.
- Detach rear brake cable. Only detach in the case of an automatic cable slack adjuster.
- Detach link rod of torsion bar from wheel carrier.
- Raise wheel carrier using transmission jack and transmission platform until axle shaft is roughly horizontal.
