  • Remove brake fluid with syringe.
  • On RAV4 models, remove air cleaner cover with air cleaner hose.
  • On all models, label and disconnect brake lines using line wrench 09751-36011, 09023-00100, or equivalent. Cap brake lines from master cylinder.
  • Disconnect wire connector from brake pressure switch and then disconnect level warning switch connector, if equipped.
  • Remove master cylinder to brake unit attaching nuts, then remove master cylinder, wire clamp, gasket and 3-way union, as needed.
  • Reverse procedure to install. Bleed brake system.

  • Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
  • Remove rear caliper.
  • Remove rotor disc.
  • Remove shoe return springs, Figs. and .
  • Remove shoe strut and spring using strut remover 09717-20010, or equivalent.
  • Slide front shoe from under shoe hold-down spring, then remove shoe adjusting screw, tension spring and remove shoe.

    • Pad wear indicator plates.
