Replacement
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assemblies.
- Install and tighten two wheel nuts opposite to retain rotor to hub.
- Tighten suitable C-clamp to compress piston into caliper bore.
- Remove mounting bolt and brake hose from caliper, Fig. .
- Remove and discard copper brake hose gaskets.
- Cap opening in brake caliper and brake hose.
- Remove guide pin bolts, caliper and bracket.
- Reverse procedure to install.

- Remove caliper piston from bore using compressed air through fluid inlet hole.

Removal
- Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Mark drum and axle hub, then remove brake drum. If brake lining is dragging on brake drum, back off brake adjustment by rotating adjustment screw. If brake drum is rusted or corroded to axle flange and cannot be removed, lightly tap axle flange to drum mounting surface with suitable hammer.
- Unhook primary and secondary return springs using brake spring removal and installation tool Nos. J-8049 or J-29840, or equivalents, Fig. . Observe location of brake components being removed to aid during installation.

- Apply and release park brake several times. Ensure lever is released completely.
- Turn ignition to On position and ensure red BRAKE lamp is not illuminated. If lamp is illuminated, verify following:
- Park brake lever is in released position and against stop.
- There is no slack in park brake cable.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- With parking brake pedal fully released, check parking brake levers on rear calipers. The levers should be against stops on caliper housings.
