Bleeding the hydraulic control unit (HCU) is only required when removing or installing the HCU or master cylinder, or when opening the lines to the HCU. Carrying out the system bleed function drives trapped air from the HCU. Subsequent bleeding removes air from the brake hydraulic system through the bleeder screws.
- Connect suitable diagnostic scan tool.
- Access "System Bleed Function." Go to Tool Tab-Chassis-Braking-ABS Service Bleed and follow directions on scan tool.

The fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. This residual pressure must be relieved before servicing the fuel system. To avoid injury or fire, release pressure from the fuel system before disconnecting any fuel line.

Do not swap driveshaft assembles from different vehicles. The Escape Hybrid drive shaft is longer than the driveshaft in the Escape/Mariner and is not interchangeable.
- With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
- Remove ground strap bolt.
- Remove and discard 6 front driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts and washers. Do not reuse CV joint bolts and washers. Install new bolts and washers or damage to vehicle may occur.
