Brake Roughness
Thickness Variation
If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pumping is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness variation. Measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius approximately one inch from edge of disc. If thickness measurements vary by more than .0005 inch, replace the disc.
Lateral Runout
Excessive lateral runout of braking disc may cause a knocking back of the pistons, possibly creating increased pedal travel and vibration when brakes are applied.
Wheel Bearing Looseness
Replace whee...

System Components
Power Brake Booster
The diaphragm-type power brake booster is a self-contained unit, mounted on the firewall. The booster uses engine intake manifold vacuum and atmospheric pressure for its power. Other than the power brake booster check valve, the booster is serviced only as an assembly. The booster must be replaced if it becomes damaged or inoperative.
Brake Master Cylinder
The brake master cylinder consists of a fluid reservoir, reservoir control valve and a fluid level indicator. The fluid level indicator is located inside the brake master cylinder reservoir and re...

Disc Brakes -> Front Disc Brakes -> Brake System Bleed -> System Priming -> Wheel Bleeding Sequence
Vehicle: 2006 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 V8 GAS
Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic disc brake systems.
Do not reuse brake fluid drained from the hydraulic system when bleeding the brakes. Ensure disc brake pistons are returned to their normal positions and the shoe and lining assemblies are properly seated.
Do not shake the pressure bleeder tank while air is being added or after it has been pressurized. This will prevent air from the tank getting into the lines. Do not move the tank during the bleeding operation. The tank should be kept at least one third full.
On models equipped with power brakes, exhaust the...

Disc Brakes -> Front Disc Brakes -> Brake Disc Service
Vehicle: 2006 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 V8 GAS
Disc brake service is critical because of the close tolerances required in machining the brake disc to ensure proper brake operation.
Maintaining close control of the shape of the rubbing surfaces is required to prevent brake roughness. In addition, the surface finish must be non-directional and maintained at a micro-inch finish. This is required to avoid pulls and erratic performance, and to promote long lining life and equal lining wear of both the lefthand and righthand brakes.
Do not attempt to refinish the rubbin...
