DRIVESHAFT, Replace -> Front -> One Piece Driveshaft -> Rear -> Three Piece Driveshaft -> Two Piece Driveshaft
Vehicle: 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier 4.0 V6 GAS

Front

  • Raise and support the vehicle.
  • Index-mark front driveshaft to front axle flange and at transfer case flange.
  • Remove and discard bolts and U-joint retainers.
  • Remove and discard flange bolts.
  • Compress and separate front driveshaft from front axle, then separate driveshaft from transfer case. Wrap electrical tape around the bearing cups to prevent them from falling off the U-joint spider.
  • Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    • Tighten transfer case flange bolts in a cross pattern.
    • Torque flange bolts to 22 ft. lbs.
    • Torque U-joint retainer bolts to 26 ft. lbs.

  • Disconnect battery ground cable.
  • Loosen band clamp and remove air filter element, tray and inlet snorkel.
  • Disconnect electronic throttle control electrical connector.
  • Disconnect throttle position sensor electrical connector.
  • Remove throttle body bolts and gasket then remove throttle body. Discard throttle body gasket and install new gasket upon installation.
  • Rotate accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and position accessory drive belt aside.
  • Pull up on wiring harness and remove three locators for alternator bracket.
