This procedure describes a propeller shaft equipped with a cardan joint in the tube yoke. For propeller shafts equipped with a companion/slip yoke, repeat the steps to remove the remaining cardan joint.

Disassemble
- Tap outside of bearing cap with a drift to loosen snap ring.
- Remove snap rings from both sides of yoke.
- Position yoke with grease fitting if equipped, pointing up.
- Position a socket with a inside diameter large enough to receive bearing cap, beneath yoke on a press.

CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 2009 Dodge Nitro SXT 3.7 V6 GAS
- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove brake caliper and rotor.
- Remove nut from half shaft.
- Remove sensor from hub bearing.
- Remove stabilizer link from stabilizer bar.
- Remove tie rod end nut and remove tie rod from steering knuckle.
- Remove clevis bracket lower nut and bolt.
- Remove upper ball joint nut and separate upper control arm from steering knuckle.
- Pull out on steering knuckle and push half shaft out of hub bearing and knuckle.
- With a pry bar remove half shaft from axle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

Remove
- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Mark an installation reference line across the front propeller shaft CV joint and transfer case flange.
- Mark an installation reference line across the front propeller shaft flange and axle flange.
- Remove axle flange bolts.
- Remove CV joint bolts and retainers.
- Compress propeller shaft enough to remove shaft from flanges.
Install
Clean all propeller shaft bolts and apply Mopar® Lock AND Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.
