- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove front wheel and underside panel.
- Release fastening nut for drive shaft.
- Push (press through) peg of drive shaft by approximately 3/4 to one inch into wheel hub with universal drive shaft/wheel hub extractor 87-1 or equivalent.
- Fix top axle strut with tension jack VW 552 or equivalent. This involves tensioning axle strut slightly because top ball joint can otherwise get damaged. By doing this, tension jack is mounted into top opening of wheel house (double panel) and in axle strut.

Position the tire changer head approximately 15 cm behind the valve stem of the sensor for the top tire bead to prevent damage to the sensor.

If the lamp remains lit, a diagnostic trouble code has been stored by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). After diagnosis and repair are complete, place ignition switch in on position without starting engine, then depress accelerator pedal fully for more than 11 seconds. ECU memory should be cleared and the Check Engine lamp should be reset.
