MASTER CYLINDER
- Disconnect battery ground cable.
- Remove brake fluid level sensor electrical connector from master cylinder reservoir.
- Remove brake line fitting nuts from master cylinder. Plug open lines and fittings to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Remove two master cylinder to brake booster attaching nuts and master cylinder.
- Reverse procedure to install.
FLUID RESERVOIR

Removal
- Release parking brake.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove brake drum. Do not pry against brake backing plate.
- Remove lower return spring, Fig. .
- Remove adjuster spring.
- Remove leading brake shoe hold-down, spring and pin.
- Remove adjuster assembly and lever. If difficult, pull leading shoe toward front of vehicle, then remove or turn star wheel on adjuster to shorten length.
- Twist shoe from upper return spring engagement to remove.
- Remove parking brake shoe upper return spring.
- Remove park brake shoe hold-down cup, spring and pin.

Brake fluid is corrosive to painted surfaces. Care must be taken not to allow brake fluid to come in contact with painted surfaces on vehicle.
MANUAL PROCEDURE
- Fill master cylinder reservoir with Dot 3 type brake fluid. Keep reservoir at least half full during bleeding procedure.
- If master cylinder is suspected to have air trapped inside, it must be bled before bleeding brake lines. Bleed master cylinder as follows:
