- Partially drain engine coolant and disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
- Remove battery from vehicle. Discharge refrigerant from system.
- Disconnect electrical connectors from blower resistor and pressure switch, Fig. .
- Disconnect EEC-IV harness.
- Disconnect suction line from accumulator/drier, Fig. , liquid line from evaporator core and the discharge line. Plug all open connections to prevent entry of dirt and moisture into system.

Ensure booster rubber reaction disc is properly installed as shown, Fig. . A dislodged disc may cause excessive pedal travel and extreme operation sensitivity. The disc is black compared to the silver colored valve plunger that will be exposed after the pushrod and front seal are removed.

The booster unit is serviced as an assembly and must be replaced if the reaction disc cannot be properly installed and aligned, or if it cannot be located within the unit itself.

Do not, under any circumstance, clamp the shaft in the jaws of a vise or similar holding fixture. Denting or localizing fracture can result, causing shaft failure during vehicle operation. Place the shaft on a suitable workbench. Do not damage the tube. If components are not marked and installed incorrectly, driveline imbalance can occur.
- Index-mark the shaft components.

- Install suitable 5/16 inch closed end wrench on tensioner pulley bolt, then lift tensioner arm away from belt. Do not use socket and ratchet.
