Disc Brakes -> Rear Disc Brakes & Parking Brakes -> Inspection
Vehicle: 1995 Ford Probe GT 2.5 V6 GAS
Remove wheels and inspect brake disc, caliper and linings. The wheel bearings should be inspected at this time and repacked if necessary. Do not get any grease on the linings.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
Should it become necessary to remove the caliper when installing new parts, clean all parts in alcohol, then wipe dry using lint-free cloths. Using an air hose, blow out drilled passages and bores. Inspect dust boots for punctures or tears. If punctures or tears are evident, install new boots during assembly.

Disc Brakes -> Rear Disc Brakes & Parking Brakes -> Brake Disc Service
Vehicle: 1995 Ford Probe GT 2.5 V6 GAS
Disc brake service is extremely critical due to the close tolerances required in machining the brake disc to ensure proper brake operation.
Maintaining close control of the shape of the rubbing surfaces is necessary to prevent brake roughness. In addition, the surface finish must be non-directional and maintained at a micro-inch finish. This is necessary to avoid pulls and erratic performance and promote long lining life and equal lining wear of both the lefthand and righthand brakes.
Do not attempt to refinish the rubbing surfaces unless precision equip...

Power Brake Units -> Adjustments -> Bendix Type -> Pushrod -> Single Diaphragm Booster
Vehicle: 1995 Ford Probe GT 2.5 V6 GAS
Pushrod
Proper adjustment of the master cylinder pushrod is necessary to ensure proper operation of the power brake system. A pushrod that is too long will prevent the master cylinder piston from completely releasing hydraulic pressure, eventually causing the brakes to drag. A pushrod that is too short will cause excessive brake pedal travel and cause groaning noises to come from the booster when the brakes are applied. A properly adjusted pushrod that remains assembled to the booster with which is was matched during production should not require service adjustment. However, if the b...

When working on or around brake assemblies, care must be taken to prevent breathing asbestos dust. Many manufacturers incorporate asbestos fibers in the production of brake linings. During routine service operations the amount of asbestos dust from brake lining wear is at a low level, due to a chemical breakdown during use. Do not sand or grind brake linings unless suitable local exhaust ventilation equipment is used to prevent excessive asbestos exposure.
The brake shoe and lining assemblies should be replaced if the lining is worn to within 1/32 inch of rivet heads (riveted linings...
