DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 1996 Mercury Sable AUTOMOBILES
Includes CV axle, universal joint, and driveline replacement, for domestic and imported 1996 Mercury Sable cars and light trucks from 1990+.
CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 1996 Mercury Sable 3.0 V6 GAS
- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
- Remove and discard front axle retainer nut and washer.
- Remove nut from stabilizer bar link at shock absorber end, then remove link from shock and position aside.
- Remove nut from lower ball joint, then using a suitable pitman arm type puller, loosen ball joint in lower control arm.
- Place a suitable pry bar through opening in lower control arm and under frame, then pry down on control arm to release lower ball joint.
- Remove outer CV joint from hub using suitable tools, noting the following:
