Cooling fan operation is controlled by the PCM through the fan relay. The PCM uses signals from the engine coolant temperature sensor, intake air temperature sensor, A/C refrigerant pressure sensor and vehicle speed sensor to determine when and how long the fan should operate. The PCM turns the cooling fan on by providing a ground path for the cooling fan control circuit which activates the coolant fan relay.

Before installing replacement compressor, drain oil from replacement and failed compressors (drain oil from suction port). Add same amount of oil to replacement compressor as drained from failed compressor.

Remove defective components. Add the proper amount of oil to each replacement component. Most recovery/recycling equipment will measure the amount of oil being removed. This is the amount of oil to be added back to the system, follow manufactures instructions provided with the recovery/recycling station.

  • Recover refrigerant as outlined under , then remove upper fan shroud.
  • Disconnect IAT and MAF sensor electrical connectors.
  • Remove fuel regulator purge tube from air intake duct.
  • Remove air intake duct assembly.
  • Prior to removal, note position of upper radiator support in relationship to the fan shroud assembly. Support must be installed correctly to retain the fan shroud assembly.
