Anti-theft radios have a coded theft protection circuit. The CODE card must be obtained before disconnecting battery, removing radio fuse or removing the radio. The serial number from the radio must match the CODE card.
After service has been performed proceed as follows:
- Connect radio power and turn key to position No. 2.

- On SL55, SL500 and SL600 models, remove exhaust system heat shield.
- On E55, E320, E430 and E500 models, remove cover panel under rear squab.
- On CLK55, CLK320, CLK430, CLK500, E55, E320, E430 and E500 models, proceed as follows:
- Turn preloading automatic slack adjuster eccentric pin clockwise approximately one turn using suitable Allen wrench through cover sheet oblong hole.
- At same time, push pin back longitudinal slot until spring-loaded locking eccentric locks into spring clip position with elevation.

- Remove propeller shaft mounting bolts.
- Remove propeller shaft.
- If rubber boot must be replaced, proceed as follows:
- Pull universal joint off propeller shaft.
- Remove rubber boot.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Coat splined shaft profile with Molykote grease, or equivalent.
- Push rubber boot with universal joint onto propeller shaft, ensuring markings align.
- Steady propeller shaft with suitable screwdriver when installing mounting bolts.
- Torque driveshaft intermediate bearing bolts to 23 ft. lbs.
