• Raise and support vehicle.
• Remove tire and wheel assembly.
• Remove caliper as outlined in. "Caliper Service."
• Remove grease cap from hub/rotor,. Fig. .
• Remove cotter pin, nut and washer.
• Remove hub/rotor from spindle, being careful not to damage spindle threads or outer bearing.
• Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
• Apply high-temperature wheel bearing grease to inner and outer wheel bearings.
• Torque nut to 12 ft. lbs., while turning wheel assembly forward by hand, back nut off one flat or until hole in spindle...

Excessive Pedal Travel

• Worn brake linings.
• Disc pads knock back after cornering or rough road travel.
• Piston and linings not properly seated or positioned.
• Insufficient fluid in system.
• Loose wheel bearing adjustment.

Master Cylinder

Some vehicles use a conventional tandem master cylinder with two hydraulic pistons operating in-line. The primary piston controls the front brake system and the secondary piston controls the rear brake system.

Other models use a master cylinder that operates the same as the conventional master cylinder, but also incorporates a quick take-up feature in the rear chamber to reduce excessive pedal travel which may result from increased fluid displacement required to move the low drag caliper piston out against the rotor.

• Remove coolant reservoir, then relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under. "Precautions."
• Remove cruise control cable from module, then disconnect electrical connector from cruise control module.
• Remove cruise control module from bracket, then the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.
• Remove PCM cover from air cleaner housing, then the PCM and set aside.
• Remove air cleaner intake duct, then bolts from air cleaner assembly and housing.
• Remove fuel lines from pipes and vapor line, then disconnect fluid level sensor switch from brake master cylinder.

• If vehicle is equipped with power brakes, remove vacuum reserve by applying brakes several times with engine off.
• Fill master cylinder reservoirs with suitable brake fluid.. Ensure to always keep master cylinder reservoirs at least half full during entire bleeding procedure.
• If master cylinder is suspected to have air in the bore, it must be bled first. To bleed master cylinder, proceed as follows:
• Disconnect forward brake pipe connection at master cylinder.
• Allow brake fluid to fill master cylinder bore until it begins to flow from forward pipe connector port.

In most circumstances a base brake bleed is all that is required for most component replacements (such as wheel cylinders, calipers, brake tubes, and master cylinder) except for BPMV replacement.

The following automated ABS bleed procedure is required when one of the following occur: Manual bleeding at the wheel cylinders does not achieve the desired pedal height or feel. Brake Pressure Modulator Valve replacement (BPMV). Extreme loss of brake fluid has occurred. Air ingestion is suspected.
