Do not clamp driveshaft in the jaws of a vise or a similar holding fixture. Carefully place driveshaft on a suitable workbench.

To maintain proper drive line balance, mark driveshaft, universal joints, slip yoke and companion flange before removing shaft so it can be installed in its original position.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Index-mark rear axle pinion flange and driveshaft centering socket yoke.
- Remove four bolts.
