The primary and secondary (front and rear) hydraulic brake systems are individual systems and are bled separately. Bleed longest tube first on individual system being serviced. During complete bleeding operation, do not allow the master cylinder reservoir to run dry. Never reuse brake fluid that has been drained from hydraulic system or has been allowed to stand in an open container for an extended period of time.
- To bleed brake system, position a suitable box wrench on bleeder fitting on brake wheel cylinder. Attach rubber drain hose to bleeder fitting.

- Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove retainer push nuts and slide drum off hub, Fig. .
- If drum is stuck to hub, use suitable hammer to lightly tap on face of drum in flange mounting area to release.
- If brake lining is dragging on brake drum, back off brake adjustment by holding adjustment lever off and loosen star wheel, Fig. .
- Remove hub nut cover and discard.
- Remove hub nut and discard. Slide hub and one-piece bearing off spindle.

- Disconnect master cylinder from booster leaving brake lines connected and secure cylinder aside.
- Start engine and operate engine at idle speed.
- With engine running, position gauge over pushrod. Gauge should bottom against booster housing with force of approximately five lbs. applied to pushrod, Fig. . Ensure pushrod is properly seated in booster when performing gauge inspection.
- If force required to seat gauge is more than five lbs., shorten length of pushrod.
- If force required to seat gauge is less than five lbs., lengthen pushrod.
