The single and tandem vacuum boosters, Figs. and , are self contained vacuum hydraulic power braking units. These are vacuum suspended units that use vacuum and atmospheric pressure for their power.
On models equipped with gasoline engines, vacuum is supplied through a fitting in the intake manifold. On models equipped with diesel engines, vacuum is supplied through a vacuum pump.

- Loosen front axle wheel hub retainer.
- With vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.
- Remove front wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove rear disc brake caliper and suspend aside using mechanics wire.
- Remove front axle wheel hub retaining nut.
- Remove tie rod end nut and separate tie rod end from knuckle.
- Remove stabilizer bar link nut.
- Remove upper ball joint nut and separate upper ball joint from knuckle.
- Remove CV shaft assembly from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Torque axle shaft hub nut to 184 ft. lbs.
- Torque upper ball joint nut to 51 ft. lbs.
