- Check pulley bearing play and drag by rotating the pulley by hand, replace pulley if noisy or has excessive play/drag.
- Check resistance of field coil, if not within specifications, (3.33-0.17 ohms at 68°F), replace the coil.
- Measure clearance between the pulley and pressure plate all the way around, Figs. and . If not within specified limits, pressure plate must be removed and shims added or removed as required.

- Obtain the vehicle owners radio theft protection code prior to disconnecting the battery ground cable, if equipped.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the fuel fill cap to release fuel tank pressure.
- On models less fuel filter service bolt, place a shop towel over the banjo bolt at top of fuel filter. Slowly loosen the banjo bolt one complete turn. When loosening the banjo bolt, use a backup wrench to hold the fuel filter in position.
